Utility Surveyors

Job Description

About us
Survey Solutions is a leading engineering surveyor specialising in land, measured building and underground utility surveys, as well as monitoring and site engineering schemes. We have a network of ten offices across the UK. Our surveyors and engineers work on some of the UK’s major construction and infrastructure developments.

We’re growing and are looking to appoint Utility Surveyors to join the utilities teams in our offices nationwide.

The role
As a Utility Surveyor, you will work independently on a full range of small to large-scale utility surveys. You’ll use innovative technology and process the data in the office to a high working standard. You’ll be confident working on multi-disciplined survey projects and will have a good understanding of different surveying methods and data capture.

You’ll also share your expertise with less experienced team members, both on site and in the office, to help them develop.

This is a full-time role. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 to 5.30, but site hours vary, so some overtime and occasional weekend working will be needed. You’ll work on projects across your local region and should live within a reasonable distance of one of our offices.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out utility and CCTV surveys of varying scale and complexity, independently and to a high standard
  • Work on large and complex projects with team members of varying technical ability and experience
  • Give guidance and direction to team members on large and complex survey projects
  • Support the development of trainee, junior and survey technician staff by giving them practical experience on site and in the office
  • Help projects run smoothly with minimal supervision, meeting agreed goals and outputs and consistently delivering high-quality work
  • Keep survey instruments well maintained and fit for purpose
  • Carry out initial site inspections and dynamic risk assessments, and report any safety issues to the wider survey team or to management

About you

  • 2–3+ years’ experience in the utilities surveying industry
  • Experience completing small to large-scale utility and CCTV surveys of varying complexity, independently
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, traversing and GPS control networks
  • Experience using GPS and total station equipment
  • Experience processing raw survey data and CAD data to a high standard
  • A professional, approachable manner and excellent communication skills
  • A strong understanding of health and safety at work in civil engineering
  • Keen to build a long-term career with Survey Solutions
  • At least 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK
