This autumn marks a huge turning point for our Association and for the profession we represent too.
On 6th August, Full and Affiliate members voted to change our name from the UK Land & Hydrographic Survey Association, long known as The Survey Association or TSA, to the Geospatial Survey Association (GSA). Companies House formally approved the change in early September, and the work to re-badge everything is now well under way.
Why have we changed from TSA to GSA?
Our Association brings together professionals across the full breadth of geospatial surveying, and our new name says so clearly. Geospatial Survey Association reflects who we are, what we do and the value our members bring to every project with which they are involved.
Websites, email addresses, social media profiles and promotional items are all being updated. Everything will be complete by our event on 6th November, the GSA Conference & Awards. New logos are already available in the Members’ area of the website, so please download them and start using them in your own materials.
Introducing The Geospatial Accord: a collective voice
Our national marketing campaign to promote The Geospatial Accord, launched last week with the biggest trade press release in our Association’s history, setting out the need, the vision and the “why” behind the campaign.
The Accord builds on our Stakeholder event in March and months of discovery work, first developed under the working title of the Unity Charter. It starts with a simple question to ponder: what would happen if geospatial surveyors stopped tomorrow?
Every building, road, bridge, railway, utility network and major infrastructure or natural world project begins with certainty. That means certainty about what is there, what can be built, and what is safe, viable and true. That certainty starts with geospatial surveyors. Yet too often, their expertise stays invisible, comes in too late, or is bought on price rather than value.
The Geospatial Accord is a powerful collective commitment to put geospatial surveying at the heart of the UK’s future, bringing organisations together to:
- strengthen standards and specifications
- secure earlier professional involvement
- improve procurement practices
- raise recognition of qualified geospatial professionals
- build a stronger future skills pipeline
Why it matters to you
The Accord gives our profession, and the wider built environment, a shared platform to tackle our challenges together, and every GSA member has a part to play in making it a success.
More updates on The Geospatial Accord will be shared at the Conference & Awards on 6th November. We hope to see you there, please look out for more information coming soon.
